The Alpha-hydroxy acid in M.D. FORTÉ® products are in the form of glycolic acid, which is naturally found in sugar cane. The advantage of glycolic acid is that its small molecular size results in more active molecules of glycolic acid in a given concentration resulting in increased effectiveness, as compared to other acids such as lactic acid and polyhydroxy acid (PHA).
Although the higher concentration of glycolic acid is more effective, it can cause more skin irritation for some people. M.D. FORTÉ® products are uniquely designed to deliver higher concentrations of glycolic acid to the skin without irritation through a process called partial neutralization. Partial neutralization raises the product pH closer to the pH of normal skin. This reduces the potential for skin irritation, and maximizes beautiful results.
